R and R Crusin' Best Of
Antarctica
Easter Island is our choice for most iconic landmark. It remains a mystery exactly how these giant statues were transported and there is an aura of spirituality among them.
Flying in a seaplane over Hal Long Bay in Viet Nam could be our most memorable moment. Not only was it a mesmerizing sight, it brought back memories of our formative years during the Viet Nam War when this area was frequently mentioned on ABC, CBS and NBC. It is remarkable how the Vietnamese hid vessels in caves and used this labyrinth of islands to its advantage.
Sydney, Australia is our favorite city primarily because it is the metropolis where we feel we could most easily assimilate as immigrants. The iconic harbor, mass transit, diversity of people and progressive government translate to an unlimited future.
Uruguay might be the hidden gem of our journey. Our knowledge of this country was limited but it seems much like Australia with a socially progressive society, amazing beaches, verdant interior and a level of stability that few countries on the continent can match.
Culinary delights were a moving target for us as we attempted to capture the best and most exemplary of local cuisine at every table away from the ship. Bennelong Restaurant at the Sydney Opera House has been chosen as our best. The atmosphere was exquisite with superb views of both the harbor and the city while the menu provided a taste of Australia at its finest.
Best of and favorites is an easy list to compile but a difficult task to complete, here goes-------
Antarctica for the most spectacular natural beauty. The serene magnificence cannot be described in words. This photograph might provide a clue.
Those who are interested will most likely first ask what was our favorite country. There are many favorites for different reasons.
Japan is my overall favorite country because of the culture. Each island has its unique character and beauty. I really like the respect for each other and the environment, the food, desire for peace and what seems to be a collective consciousness for a better world. I must admit my most recent experience is always highly influential.
Australia is Ruth Ann's favorite country. It has both the bewitching countryside as well as the modern cities. There is room for growth and opportunity in this English speaking country with many similarities to the U.S., although much more progressive.
Hanoi Vespa Night Tour lasted four hours with several stops for food and refreshments. It was a thrilling ride among thousands of motorbikes with seemingly no traffic laws. Most unique experience. We had a blast!
Al Green sang this verse and chorus in I'm Still In Love With You;
Hey hey, when I look in your eyes
For all the years, I see (I see)
Me loving you, and you loving me, hey, seem to me
That I'm still wrapped up in your love
For all the years, I see (I see)
Me loving you, and you loving me, hey, seem to me
That I'm still wrapped up in your love
Don't you know that I'm still in love
Sho-nuff in love with you, hey I'm, I'm
Don't you know that I'm still in love
Sho-nuff in love with you
Sho-nuff in love with you, hey I'm, I'm
Don't you know that I'm still in love
Sho-nuff in love with you
Beyond. Precious. Memories.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised that the Vespa ride was a highlight. The smile on Ruth Ann's face gave it away
