Awesome Alaska
Portage Glacier behind Ruth Ann.
Along the way.
The summit.
Happy again.
My lifelong hiking companion.
This big fella kept an Eagle Eye on us as we descended the mountain.
View from our climb down to where we began our trek.
Ruth Ann grew up near Caldwell, Ohio without a family car. Therefore, she walked the railroad tracks to town for band practice and other activities. She walked the railroad tracks sixty years later from the cruise terminal in Whittier, Alaska to the Portage Pass Trailhead. You've come a long way, Mabe.
We hiked from sea level to nearly 1000 feet elevation to reach Portage Pass.
Trailhead where we began our ascent to the snow covered mountain at the top of the photograph.A journey into the Alaskan wilderness will leave you with an indelible impression that will stay with you forever.” – Jeffrey Siger
A VERY LONG WAY!
