Uluru, Australia
Red Centre of Australia is where we will stay for two days after a three hour flight from Cairns early this morning. It is autumn in the desert so the temperature is rather pleasant but still hot when hiking. Above is the view of Uluru from our balcony. The road into the resort called Longitude 131. Our tent.
Uluru sunset from a viewing point much closer to this giant rock where only 20% of it is above ground.
Another view of Uluru with our friends from Chicago, Becki and Melanie.Uluru Field of Light is an installation of 50, 000 solar powered lights by internationally celebrated artist, Bruce Munro. The lights change color as one wonders through this huge field of light.
Dinner under the stars was our next stop where this astronomer used his super powered laser pointer to show us the planets, stars, constellations, nebulas, and other universes.
We were in the middle of the totally dark desert of the Outback where the Milky Way was on full display. I tried to capture it in photos but could not come close to the majesty displayed in the night sky. Our world cruise has exemplified what a great big wonderful and beautiful planet on which we live with such a wide diversity of fauna, flora, geography, people, food and culture. We have so many similarities and our differences can enrich us rather than divide us. We slept on our balcony under the stars in the Australian desert. When we take the time and find the place to see with our own eyes how truly vast is the universe, we are in complete awe of not only what we see but how we must save Mother Earth.
The Eagles sang in Peaceful Easy Feeling;
And I wanna sleep with you in the desert tonight
With a billion stars all around.
With a billion stars all around.
Beautiful --- I love how you 2 are soaking in every opportunity!!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love this. How magical!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it was magical!
DeleteWhenever friends depart on a "World" length vacation I always wonder if it will, as it unwraps, turn out to be too long. After all, how often can we be put in awe of something we are seeing and experiencing? But in your case, we are thrilled to see that the sense of wonder just keeps growing. When you return, you will have seen so much more than most and you will enjoy a level of understanding and experience that will, I hope, bring you great joy and memories for years to come. Your blog is beautifully written. Thank you for that.

DeleteThank you for everything, Richard. Coming from an esteemed travel veteran, your words are meaningful and inspire me to keep writing not only what I see but also how it makes me feel. Last Day in Indonesia might be my best blog.
