Hong Kong

 Hazy is this panoramic photograph of Hong Kong from Victoria Peak.  One of the steepest funiculars in the world took us to the top of The Peak.  While there, we ordered an American lunch of grilled cheese and french fries.  I ordered wine.  Our friends, MelBec, ordered LARGE beers.

                                Both hands were required for hoisting these giant mugs of beer.

Hop On Hop Off bus was our mode of transportation for the day.  As soon as we were seated on the open air top deck, the skies began raining cats and dogs.  We donned our parkas just in time to keep from getting drenched.  At the third stop we descended to the lower deck along with everyone else.  We stood for several stops as the rain continued.  Water gushed down the steps and formed a pool for soaking our feet.  Finally, the sun began to shine and even with wet feet, we refused to let the deluge dampen our spirits.  Dry socks purchased at Stanley Market helped, as well.

Stunning architecture was on display throughout our bus ride as we returned to the upper deck for better views.  The depth of these designs cannot be captured with a camera, they must be seen to be appreciated.  Hong Kong's urban planning is displayed as such a futuristic city, it makes the U.S. look like we're living in the past.

Local cuisine is one of our top priorities so we often dine off the ship.  Last night was the one Michelin Star, Spring Moon.  Roasted goose was my main course.

Trying unusual food is one of my quirky traits so for my appetizer, I ordered red jellyfish.  Below are two photos- the second is a close-up.

                                     I liked the taste.  The texture was like eating crunchy jello.

Food allergies has never been a concern of mine until about half way through this dish, my lips started to tingle and become numb.  Of course, I stopped eating the jellyfish and my lips returned to normal.  Henceforth, when a server in a restaurant asks me if I have any allergies, I must reply, yes, I am allergic to red jellyfish.

Norah Jones wrote and sang, Come Away With Me;

Come away with me, and we'll kissOn a mountain topCome away with me, and I'll never stop loving you
I wanna wake up with the rainFalling on a tin roofWhile I'm safe there in your armsSo all I ask is for youTo come away with me, in the night
Come away with me

  1. Wow Hong Kong looks really amazing. I truly hope that I get a chance to visit there before I return home from Japan. It looks like y’all are having an absolute blast. Food allergies can be really frustrating when you are trying new foods or cuisines, or at least I know I have felt that way many times before. I can’t wait to hear what you think of Japan.

    Cheers,
    Zach
