Day Skipper

American in American Samoa preparing to skip a day.  Today is Tuesday- tomorrow will be Thursday.  I've read about and been aware of the international dateline for most of my life.  It seemed so far away and obscure until now when I become a Day Skipper- "one way ticket, yeah.  It took me song long to find out and I found out." - from Day Tripper by the Beatles.   Day Skipper, yeah.

Our granddaughter, Caroline, suggested I edit an email I recently sent to her and include it in my blog.  I do most everything Caroline asks of me so I have added it below;

Dear Caroline,

We are enjoying our adventure very much.  Are you following us on your map?  Have you been reading my blog?  We spent several days on the islands of French Polynesia which seemed like islands in paradise.  People are much more relaxed and not in a hurry.  It is called "island time".  Most of the island people seem happy to live their lives in the moment without the pressure to compete and get ahead.  Grandma and I fall in love more everyday- even after 52 years together!  Seeing and experiencing all of these new places brings us even closer together.  My blog will help us remember this fantastic journey.

Many of the people on this cruise have been on other world cruises and plan for more world cruises.  Not all people stay on world cruises but are serial cruisers which means they go from one cruise to another.  Grandma and I are one and done which means this is our only world or long cruise.  We tell the serial cruisers we talk to that we have children and grandchildren back home and we want to get back to grandparenting!  We miss you and hope you are sharing our adventure by reading my blogs.
