Coconut Islands

The Tree of Life.  The coconut tree provides nearly everything a person needs to survive.  We cruised the lagoon today on a small boat and enjoyed another motu picnic.

Our guide demonstrated how to construct a plate from coconut palm leaves which we used at lunch.

Our guide explained that the turquoise water is very shallow because it is above the reef while the blue water is deeper.  The entire lagoon is the center of an ancient volcano.

This stingray knows our guide.  Eaglerays were also visible in the shallow water above the reef.  They have a winglike feature that looks like they are flying in the water.

  1. I never realized how cute stingrays could be! Banana leaf plate looks amazing. Watch out for Captain Hook in the “goon”.
