Bora Bora

Sunrise over Bora Bora where long-ago best-selling author, James Michener, served in the military which inspired his Pulitzer Price winning book, "Tales of the South Pacific".  Michener called Bora Bora the most beautiful island in the world.  Bora Bora was formed by an extinct volcano surrounded by a lagoon and fringing reef.

Early in the morning, we climbed into this 4-wheel drive off road truck with six other people for the ride of our lives.  We climbed a thousand feet up a steep mountain on an eroded dirt road full of rocks, bumps, large cracks and crevices.  As we were slipping and sliding, more than once, it seemed we just might tumble over the mountain and into the sea as we hung on for dear life.  Our guide was not only an expert driver in these conditions, he was also a comic.  Many guides try to include humor with some moderately successful and others not so much.  This guy was very funny!

The views were worth the wild ride.

Our tour included other island stops and a smaller less risky mountain climb.

Upon our return and confirmation of consciousness, we ate lunch at a local snack shack.

Sunset Cruise scheduled for this evening in a motorboat was more rain clouds than sunset.
However, the cloud formations were fascinating.

We were on the Love Boat.

We avoided the rain until near the end of the cruise when we were suddenly drenched and enjoyed it as a unique experience in a lagoon near Bora Bora in French Polynesia.

  5. Your photos are great. But I can’t help but think they’d be even better if you had someone just a few inches taller to take them for you. Something to consider for next time.
