It was a dark and stormy night
Hiking in the Falkland Islands was waiting for us at the end of this rainbow. Due to extreme weather conditions, our ship couldn't secure anchor in the harbor so all shore excursions were cancelled. Our ship hovered near the island hoping for improved weather but the weather forecast worsened. We are now pitching and rolling toward Elephant Island and the Antarctic Peninsula. It is much colder and the waves are lashing our boat. Shortly after lunch, it became difficult to maintain our equilibrium and balance. Lying down makes being tossed about more tolerable so we decided to nap through the afternoon amid the rough seas hoping conditions would be much improved upon awakening.
However, we were awakened in the late afternoon by the Captain making an announcement that passengers should prepare for even worse weather conditions for the next few hours and that we should expect stormy seas throughout the night. So much for that strategy. After having slept much of the day, it is going to be a long night. Oh well, at least we don't have to go anywhere tomorrow,...or the day after that,...or the day after that,.. or the day after that. We'll be cruising the Antarctic Peninsula for several days at a slow rate of speed so as not to disturb the whales. We hope to snap many very cold, I mean cool photos of icebergs to share on our blog.
As the Moody Blues sang;
My boat sails stormy seasBattles oceans filled with tearsAt last my port's in viewNow that I've discovered you
As life goes drifting byLike a breeze she'll gently sighAnd slowly bow her headThen you'll hear her softly cry.
Oh I'd give my life so lightlyFor my gentle ladyGive it freely and completelyTo my lady
Gosh, I hope the weather has improved! I imagine that could be a little scary!
ReplyDeleteThe weather has greatly improved. It wasn't scary, just nauseating.
DeleteDid RAC do ok in the roughness?
ReplyDeleteRAC did better than me though we were both affected.
