Icebergs, Mountains and Infinity
Deciduous forest with birds, squirrels and deer is what we routinely see on our morning hikes in Ohio. In the Antarctic Straights, during our morning walk on the top deck, we are surrounded by snow-capped mountains, icebergs, penguins, seals and whales.
It is surreal. Like our son-in-law, Mike, once said about our snowmobile trip in Yellowstone National Park, it is like being in a postcard all day. Our presence here is like being in another world. The scenery is spectacular, magnificent and surrounds the soul with humility for our singular existence and gratitude for our Earth. Antarctica gives hope for the future with its mostly unchanged landscape for thousands of years.
The ocean is as smooth as ice in Paradise Bay and produces an infinity pool like optical illusion where it stretches beyond the horizon. As we slowly coast through this untamed earthly terrain, icebergs parade by us with one interesting formation after another. It is stunning!
As REO Speedwagon sang:
Cause it was us baby, way before thenAnd we're still togetherAnd I meant, every word I saidWhen I said that I love you I meantThat I love you forever
And I'm gonna keep on lovin youCause it's the only thing I wanna doI don't wanna sleepI just wanna keep on lovin you
Cute penguins!!!
ReplyDeleteThose pictures are incredible! We can only imagine what it would be like in person to see nature like that. I'd guess that it was incredibly quiet with no city noise pollution or even just the daily background noise that we've all gotten used to.
ReplyDeleteNo light pollution either. It has been mostly cloudy. One night it was clear at midnight and stars filled the sky. You and Yvette might want to schedule this segment of the cruise next year or plan an excursion ship that includes walking on the continent.
