It is now one month until we embark on our five month adventure. We have been planning this journey for more than two years and now it has become much more real. There are many details to complete prior to our departure. We are looking forward to this with both anticipation and a bit of anxiety. As Frankie Ford sang, “So be my guest, you got nothin’ to lose. Won’t ya let me take you on a sea cruise?”
Devil's Island
This was a French penal colony for 100 years until 1953, where convicts went to die of disease or harsh conditions as 75% died within their first year. We have each seen prison cells (from the outside of the cell!) so we will not tender to this 35 acre island. My most recent post worried our family that we are not enjoying our journey. Quite the contrary, we are walking an hour every morning and working out at the fitness center 3 times per week. We have danced, played scrabble, dined with other couples and we have each finished a book. Our travel consultant gave us good suggestions for future excursions. I believe it is important to not only record the positive experiences but to also write about the unfavorable accounts, as well.
